WOW! Lynn's DVD
I just finished watching Lynn's World of Straight Razor Shaving DVD. I felt overwhelmed.
My 17 year old daughter asked me what I was doing, while I was watching the DVD. I told her that I was "learning what my grandfather knew, but what my father didn't pass on to me". (I wished my father had taught me many of the 'general topics' Lynn presented on the DVD, but then maybe he didn't know himself.)
Anyway, my daughter stated that I wasn't 'right', and that I would end up slicing my head off. (She ended up watching the DVD for awhile.) My wife chimed in and said that people didn't use straight razors anymore because they were too expensive.
I couldn't let either statement stand, and explained that the reason people didn't use straight razors anymore is because; they are in too big of a hurry and/or they don't know how to properly care for their razors (read: hone, strop, dry, etc.). I also stated that in the long run (not necessarily too long of a run), cartridge razors are much more expensive.
I did ask my daughter if she wanted me to get her a straight razor for her legs ;-> (Had a little fun with that one.) She was happy when I told her that she will get my cartridge razor and blades.
To make a long story short, I will probably end up wearing out the DVD with multiple watchings. Also, I now have better knowledge about shaving that I can pass on to my son.

Lynn's DVD is a most excellent investment. I got some weird looks from the roomy when I was watching it as well.
"You bought a DVD about shaving?"
"Yeah, straight shaving is a lost art and this is a good way to learn all about one."
"You have a DVD all about how to shave yourself?"
"Yeah... well... it talks about other useful things as well, like honing and stropping and restoration."
"But its a DVD about shaving. You do know how weird that is right?"
"No, how weird is it?"
"Pretty damn weird man. Your a frickin shaving nerd."
When and if I have a son, got to get married off first I guess, I look forward to passing on the knowledge.
"Here, go watch this and then we'll talk"
"Dad, first of all, this is a DVD; it's not even high def. Do we even have a player for this anymore?"
"Hang on, I think I have one in the basement... or maybe the attic."
"Will it even hook up right?"
"I've got an adapter some where around here..."
Well, you get the point.

Your DVD certainly rocks Lynn, I did however make the tradgic mistake of lending it to a friend...
I'm now reduced to planning a "break and enter" to take back rightfull possession... *sigh*

I think Lynn's head is swelled up enough from these posts but I do think anyone wanting to straight shave really has to view it.

I have every intention of purchasing and watching it several times prior to my first attempt with a straight razor. The razor was just purchased today, so it will be a couple of weeks.

Yes indeed!
Lynn's DVD is one of the best investments of all the gear you can buy if you are going to shave with a straight razor. I have watched it 3xx and pick up on something new each time. Way to go Lynn.
