Thanked: 443I don't have much to add, except to second what Trimmy72 has to say about the appearance of a lather that will probably shave well for you, that you should get water, air, and soap combined until you achieve That is, the lather holds its shape in the bowl after you've stretched it a little while pulling the brush away. You'll get a more or less matching peaks--one left in the bowl and one poking off your brush. I've also seen the proper consistency described as being like yoghurt.
I live and shave in the high desert, where it's usually about 15% RH, so seldom count on one pass of lather staying viable for an entire shave. I'll lather my whole face, but count on wiping a lot off and replacing it before actually finishing the entire shave. That's not lather wasted, though; it does help to soften the barbs a little. I do the hardest-to-shave barbs, my moustache and chin, last so they get the longest softening soak.
Good luck to you. It'll come, and it'll get better. The best thing about this kind of shave is that, for the rest of your life, you'll discover little subtleties that make it a little better each time."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
