Holy Smokers, Bullwinkel
I made the hat-trick. Three great shaves in a row w/o the need for styptic. And btw, each shave closer & more comfortable than it's predecessor. Taking my time and enjoying every moment. And when I'm pressed for time, a Derby blade in my EJ DE is also very gratifying. These are two of my favorite things.

I actually really like just using a straight for the WTG pass sometimes and then finishing with my Merkur DE and a feather blade. Super baby smooth.

Jim,
That sounds great!
It appears that you've got the hang of straight razor shaving. Keep it up."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Quicksilver, This is exactly what I do for now. I am just learning to use shavettes an straights. Ive used a DE merkur for several years. So for now a WTG pass straight then finish with the DE. Been working great an I am finally starting to feel comfortable with it.

Bravo Jim!
The guys aren't joking when they say it just gets better. 'Gotten to where I'd rather not shave than not use a str8, though often, I'll settle for decent instead of wonderful. You're on your way to the best shaves of your life.

Thanked: 40Good for you. It sounds like you have the basics down. Keep working on them till they're second nature. Beware over confidence. One slip and your razor will bite you and wake you up. Have fun.
