Thanked: 0My first razor
Hey all,
In new to the straight razor world.
I always wanted to shave with a straight razor and yesterday I bought my first razor. I wanted to know if my chois was a good one for a beginner.
Also, any other information and advise are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 4827I have one as well. Mine came with geometry problems, which i am lead to believe is standard. It did not take forever to fix, but took me a while to figure out. Once I got the problems worked out and a proper edge on it it was OK. Some guys won't take them on for honing because of all the issues with different ones. It is probably not the best choice for a beginner. You have it now, so I guess the next challenge is to find someone to put a shave ready edge on it.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Oops, I was posting the same time as Rezdog, but....
Well, they have a long history. What size is it? Was it delivered shave ready?

Thanked: 0Thanks for the info.
RezDog - Please excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by geometry problems? As I was told, the blade is "shave ready".
Hraoldg48 - the size is 6/8 and as I mentioned, it came shave ready.Last edited by Tankus; 04-12-2014 at 06:44 AM.

the only test to see if it is shave ready is to shave with it but the majority on the forum here will tell you that almost all store bought razors are not. if you want to be certain, send it to one of the honemeisters (classifieds, member services) and that way you won't be off to a bad start. but welcome to the wonderful world of manhood and enjoy

As said most manufacturers says it is shave ready from factory but they rarely are and unless it was hand honed you should send it out for honing. The geometry is to do with the spine to edge ratios and grinding. The antique giesenn and forsthoff blades are considered quality blades but the newer one are less so. Good luck and I hope you get great shaves from your razor.

Manah is in Israel, I know he does some beauties of restorations.
I am not sure if he does honing in general, but he comes off as a heck of a guy and I am sure if you reach out something could be arranged.
After all if you don't ask you wont know.It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!
