Thanked: 25New guy to face swords
I always wanted a hot towel shave in a barber shop. Last week my brother and I experienced shaves at the Art Of Shaving and was blown away. I purchased a Dovo replaceable SR and have used it everyday since.
The biggest challenge was not blocking my line of sight. Still don't have that completely worked out.
I find it curious that SR suppliers/manufactures show out of stock on all their razor stock. Handguns, or gun powder, I understand, but SR's?
I plan to buy a real SR and will pick through info on your site for which one would be best for myself.
I used Tabac Org for the first time last night. I'm sure more soaps will be collected.
Look forward to chatting with you fellows.
Cheers, Ron

Neckbone,
Welcome to Straight Razor Place. Make sure you do your reading here at SRP, and ask questions. Oh, the best way to improve your field of vision is to switch hands: right hand right side, left hand left side. Going against the grain on the neck, south to north, the hands are switched: right hand left side, left hand right side.

Thanked: 1195Welcome to SRP, Ron.
Sounds like you're on the right path. As for your line of sight question, I'm afraid there is no ready made solution. It does become intuitive after a while though. I've been doing this for many years and there are still spots that I can't see very well. You can try switching hands or altering your grip, tilting your head etc, basically whatever it takes to get the job done

Glad you had a good AoS shaving experience! My nearby AoS offers straight shaves, but I haven't tried them yet.
Don't hesitate to buy vintage/used, as long as it's someone with reputation at stake and the razor is hand-honed by someone who shaves with straights. The Classifieds here is a good starting place. Good luck!Keep your pivot dry!

I was amazed by a couple of things with the AoS. I never had an ATG shave before. I didn't need a reshave for 2 days !! You guys are probably used to that.
I picked up a Dovo Shavette at the time and have been using it daily since. I'm not ready to try ATG yet. LOL
