Thanked: 1Any Shaving, Stropping, Honing Lessons NYC Tri-State area?????
OK, I've ordered the Lynn Abrams DVD, but I was wondering if there was anywhere one could get "Real-Time Hands-On" Training for STR8 Razor shaving, Honing, Stropping in the NY Tri-State area? there has to be a "Shaving 101" course somewhere on shaving, stropping, and honing at a barber-shop, community college, BOCEs, BarberShop School, Evening Annex, etc....
There is a store in NYC "The Art of shaving" that is offering a FREE training and a shave if you buy one of their rather overpriced "re-brand" (supposedly TI) straight razors...
I'm trying to decide if I should buy their over priced re-brand Thiers-Issard STR8 razor for $105.00.
Before I do, I'd like to discover exactly which TI razor they're actually selling....
There are only TI markings on the spline but not on the blade 'cause they've rebranded the razor with "The Art of Shaving".
I had a close look at the edge and it didn't look very "ready to shave" to me.... in fact it looked pretty rough... definitely needing some serious honing....
The shop "girl" didn't know what honing or pre-honing meant, all she kept saying was that the razor was "rady to shave"....
I called their customer serce department and their "Razor Expert" didn't know what he was talking about... After 5 minutes of non-answers, pure waffle, double talk, and bull-shit...I finally said to him...
"You don't know what you're talking about do you?"... and he finally had to admit that he didn't....
Perhaps this is a warning to me that I should save my money for a REAL TI razor from someone legit like CLassic...and shop around for a really good barber in NYC and simply offer him the price of a shave to teach me how to shave and hone and strop...
Any suggestions for a TOP notch barber (or anyone else) who really knows his stuff who can teach me how to shave, hone, and strop?
You know this might be an interesting course for the Evening Annex, or some night school, community college, BOCES, etc....
ANY volunteers in the NYC Tri-State area please?
Thanks in advance,
All the best,
