I know it is an art that you learn over time and have been enjoying every moment of it, and even my safety razor shaving.

I wanted to jump the gun and see how a straight razor shave will feel when i am proficient at it (eventually)
So 3 blocks from where i live there is this barber, a 79-80 year old smaller Italian man. He has been a professional barber his whole life, and WOW what an experience!
the hot towels, pre shave cream, the shave itself was something else, hot and cold towels and then an aftershave cream to finish.

The shave itself was fantastic, his blade glided so smoothly and lightly and quick that it showed me how much i had to learn but also how great the experience of a straight shave can be. It gave me a gauge of what to look/feel for on my next shave aswell.

I have course thick facial hair and normally against the grain has always been a painful experience for me but not this time.
After he was done i could run my hand against the grain and feel not a single strand, that term as smooth as a baby's bottom is exactly the feeeling it was.

This experience only heightened my enthusiasm to learn and get better, if i can eventually get the skill to replicate the shave i got on saturday i will be extremely happy.

I live in Winnipeg now and also wondered if there are any other members here from Winnipeg to possibly share experiences or learn with/from?

Originally from New Zealand i will be proud to take this skill home and show off to my friends at some point. (when i can actually do it properly)
You're from New Zealand and you now live in Winnipeg, Lord Thunderin' Jesus if that ain't a Cod outta the Bay I don't know what is (trying my best East Coast accent)....I'm surprised you didn't freeze to death in the Winter and you'll be eaten alive in the summer, and still freeze to death...Winnipeg's a great city, but how did you end up there getting a fine razor like that....
