Once you learn the growth pattern its the same as shaving your face. Until you get proficient a second mirror to see the back of the head while shaving is a help. After a couple weeks you will have it down. An completely agree with jimbo on the hat comment. I usually wear a ball cap anyways. But especially when out in the sun. Only takes one good burn to "learn" ya. < you don't want your scalp looking like that.

I must be a slow learner - I think I've burned my scalp several times, I just never seem to learn lol - I use to wear ball caps, and would get an arch burned into the back of my head, wear the band goes across. Fitted ball caps seem to be the way to go.

Been shaving my head for over 10 years. I was using a Mach, but for the past year or so I've been using Head Shaver. I've tried it with a straight, but I'm not that proficient yet. Head Shaver's blades will get me about a month worth, and I'll shave 3-4 times a week. However, how much you'll get from a cartridge will largely depend on your hair, courseness, growth, etc.

I've not found a suntan lotion I really like, but tend to lean towards spray that dries fast. Having lotion run in your eyes and down your face is a horrible feeling. 99% of the time I wear a hat or bandana when I spend time in the sun. However, I'm usually good for 1 sunburn a year, and let me tell you, having your head peel is no picnic!

Anyway, other advice - Head Shaver also makes an after shave balm for glossiness. If that's something you like, I recommend it. I like the shiny dome look myself. Good luck, and enjoy!

I have been shaving the head 4x a week for around 10yrs. The Mach was my choice for many years, But have had great success switching to the DE over the last 6 months. I have now alternated between straight and DE and love both! Good Luck!!

15 years head shaving and i never found the cartridge that would do two passes comfortably, YMMV. Swapped to a straight for everything a few months back and after 7 good nicks and a slice (all at the top back right and left) I got it down. No more razor bumps/ingrown-hairs (unavoidable with every cart I tried) since the swap. I will say that after one, two pass, shave I have to touch up the straight; also I recommend stropping between passes.

As to sunscreen I, like others before me, recommend a hat. A hat is the one way to guarantee no burn.
