Welcome RedFox. Sounds like your off to a pretty good start. Now you know one reason for having several straights. Pretty soon you'll be getting some stones to take care of your own blades.

I just got back from a week of traveling and brought a cartridge razor with me. Not fun at all. Today I broke out mt favorite straight and totally enjoyed the shave. So much easier to get a close shave.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Depending on the size of the chips, it may not be you at all! There is the possibility of having the steel have a weak spot in it. I've seen it on my great grandfather's near full wedge W&B. Further honing provided clean steel.

Take advantage of the free honing coupon but take care when rinsing when you get it back. You can use a rag to wipe the lather off on. Something else you could do is hang a washrag over the faucet to keep contact with the razor at a minimum.

Just be thankful that you didn't witness this happen to you which happened to someone else many years ago:

Looks like the repair and display box turned out great. Something like that chunk coming out must be one in a million. Anyway, hoping mine doesn't turn into a display so soon. I suspect user error on my part. As someone said earlier, I must have looked at it wrong.

Hi and welcome. Bummer about the razor. Guess it is justified now to get another one so you have a rotation Good luck with your future shaves and always feel free to ask questions

Well, funny you mention that. I went ahead and ordered a 5/8" Sight Unseen razor from whippeddog.com! Looking forward to seeing what arrives.

Man, I know the feeling. It's been two days since I sent the razor off and haven't shaved since. I DREAD going back to the "C" word, if only for just one shave. Ever tried a DE? Thought about trying as an alternative for travel.
