I'd stay away from the Col. Conk hone. It's completely useless for razors. The Norton is good enough to give you a nice shaving edge. Anything above is a bonus.

FiReSTaRT,
I don't disagree concerning the Colonel Conk hone, however, it was the only thing that I could find in my area. I checked barber supplies, pharmacies, discount stores, antique stores, barber shops, and finally a cutlery store. The cutlery store was the only one that had a 'barber's hone'. Albeit a Colonel Conk.
When I am able to acquire a Norton 4k/8k, the Colonel Conk will probably be converted to use on the knives on my block planes. Possibly for my pocket and hunting knives also.
Anyway, a bird in hand......

You can always order online. It should come out to under $70 shipped from Vintage Blades LLC IIRC.

If it's been on the Conk hone, then it probably needs a few passes on the Norton.
