Default wet shave beginner looking for mentor, Seattle/Everett WA area

    Hi all,
I'm interested in meeting someone in this area to continue this adventure with. I'd like to find a mentor or fellow wet shaver to gain skills and knowledge faster than "puttering" on my own. I have just started DE shaving with a Gillette "slim" that belonged to my grandfather. I want to eventually start SR shaving. I've been bit by the bug and haven't even tested the waters! Is there anyone living in the North Seattle to Everett area who is interested in sharing, teaching or just meeting up?
    Thanks,
    G

It is a fair distance away but we have the Pacific Northwest Spring Meet this coming weekend in Yakima:

MattCB is also working on organizing details for the Pacific Northwest Fall Meet switching from Spokane to Seattle Area and his thread is here:

    with related information here:

That should get you up to date with the Pac NW Meets. There seem to be quite a few people from the Seattle Area so I bet someone will jump on and give you more information. IIRC there used to be an area of the Forum that listed everyone by Area but I just did a quick search and could not find that.

However, evidently there is a Greater Pacific Northwest Wet Shavers Group (I may have been aware of this then spaced it out???) that you can join here:

If you can possibly make it to the Meet in Yakima that Gerrit is graciously hosting, you will learn more in a few hours than you can reading here or elsewhere or by watching videos for months! I'm not exaggerating here!

I speak from experience! While I have only made it to one meet it really helped me! I wouldn't be where I am with honing and restorations if I hadn't have been there!

The frosting on the cake is Tri Fold as:

Gerrit will be doing demonstrations on brush making

Glen will be showing all kinds of tricks with honing etc

And Gerrit and his lovely bride will be providing wonderful food!

Please try to make both days, it will be well worth your time and trouble

If you can only make one day ask what day what is happening so you can choose the day that you feel will help you the most

Default This is a smart guy

'Green, Its really smart to seek out the time w/ some experienced shavers. 'Uncommon smart. Bravo. As the gents have said, the spring meet would be oustanding, and I hope you get some response from a member near your location. I think you'll find it really speeds up the learning. BTW, another member, seeking the same learning is working to head down my way for some tutorial and edge-freshening time. Should your travels Bring you by Portland, let me know. Best of Luck.

As Prahston and the others have said, try to make a meet if at all possible. I would love to hit the Yakima meet this year, but can't due to family obligations. However, I will be making th epush to finalize the Seattle/Portland meet soon so keep your eyes open.

quick thread hijack: BTW, I made the Greater Pacific Northwest Wet Shavers Group the other day. I hope to be sending out "invites" to any and all who are even close to us folks with moss growing behind our ears. Will be a good central spot to work out details for meets and for any other local opportunities that come up.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

+1 - couldn't say it any better so consider this a bump for all the guys who surf this forum only using the "today's posts" tool .

Welcome to SRP Green - good luck!

Looking forward to the meet up at Fado's. I've been practicing my lather building and DE use. I'm getting, at minimum, the same quality of shave with daily DE use that I was accomplishing with cartridges so I feel pretty good about my progress. Two passes is about all the time I have in the mornings since I shave my skull too. I tried my SR once but I believe the razor needs stropping and I haven't procured a strop yet. Let alone, I don't really know how to strop. Yes, I've watched videos and understand the process just haven't "done" it. I sure do receive a lot of comments on using the bathroom for so long! "He sure primps a lot more than his brother" was one comment my ma made but then she commented on how good my skin is looking. So, all in all it is going pretty well. I'd still like to find someone local to meet up with. Matt has extended an invite, (I do appreciate the offer), but he lives a bit far from me and we haven't been able to coordinate anything yet.
