Thanked: 0Dovo black star
I have been researching which straight razor I should buy for my first razor, and I really like the dovo black star. But I can't find any place that has them in stock, I have checked pretty much every website I can find that sells straight razors. Does anyone know where I can get a dovo black star?

I don't mean to crush your hopes. But DOVO, like many straight razor manufacturers, hasn't been able to keep up with demand. Many models are out of stock everywhere, and are backordered like crazy!
Good luck finding what you want...I imagine that your best bet will be a used razor. You might even ask by posting in the forum Want Ads.When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.

Thanked: 1184It's a nice razor but you may be in for some waiting and searching. Supply is not keeping up with demand these days. Something about " who would have thought these many guys would want to go back in time ? " The question now is patience, how much do you have? You might be able to find a nice vintage while you wait. Your going to need more than 30 anyway :<0)
You may get lucky and some one sends you a PM. Won't be me but somebody.....maybe...Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 154I would follow the advice of 10Pups

Granted, judging by the pictures, Dovo razors look nice indeed. Dovo often goes for choice materials and well, pictures are taken from the side, putting emphasis on it.
They can be decent to good shavers, but almost everytime I've been asked for help with a first razor, it has been a Dovo. I tend to think (my opinion only here) that they leave little place for beginners mistakes, and need time and much correct stropping to be at their best.
Before concluding this post, I've had a look at the classifieds, and can confirm that there are, indeed, a few blades, with an accessible price, that would be an excellent choice for a beginner (including one I would recommend without any doubt)
Judging with your eyes and being proud of your first razor is important. Keep in mind though that ultimately your skin will have the final answer.

Thanked: 0Give a call to Old Town Shaving. He has more dovo's in stock than the typical online stores.
Dovo - The Old Town Shaving Company at The Shoppes at Stats
And as long as you are spending, he's probably the only stockist of Martin de Candre soap in the US if you want to try that out.
Although buying from SRD will come shave ready for sure. If you like that Ralf Aust or anything else they have in stock, I'd do that.

You could place a WTB ad in the classifieds - may be a member has one for sale. I've gotten that razor a couple of times in different colors but I believe I've sold all of them (it's been years).

Thanked: 60I looked at one of those recently as well and couldn't find it in stock. I opted for a Bismarck instead, which I like, but took a bit of extra time on the hones to get it where it needed to be.

Straight rastraight razor designs has a lot of comparable razors. if you can't find anything you liked their superior shave. Com has many razors to choose from and keep track of stock very well. Whatever you see pictured is what he has.
