    Default OMG I'm addicted

I know it is a long post but I do get to a few questions at some point. All of you experienced guru's.... Please help!!!

A couple of weeks ago I nearly spent a fortune buying everything I needed (glad I didn't as the rendering on my 1820's house is cracked and what I thought would be £200 is actually over £2000 to get right).
I decided to give a straight with disposable blade a go (feather or so I'm told).
Anyway, first go was ok but the shave not that close and I got a small cut that bled for over an hour (I'm on blood thinning drugs so perhaps not my best hobby to adopt) not that you'd notice it after it stopped bleeding, no sign at all, thank god I could have looked a right dick the following day at the office.

Since then I've been shaving every coupls of days seriously but even just after having finished a shave will go back for another go a couple f hours lated, knowing it is already BBS but just because I want to as it is theraputic and also, I guess will get me in the habbit of doing it with little prssure.

Trouble is that I'm starting to get addicted now. Help. RAD will be next (Oh yeah you can tell I've been doing nothing but looking at straight forums and getting all of the acronyms).

However I do have a major problem. I've always used a shavnig soap that my father in law gets from a mate (he was a barber and, knowing him probably gots it by not so legal means). Cost me a pint of lager when apparently it is a £15 soap (could be my father in law ripping me off though) but I just ran out and after asking for another half dozen am being told he can not get it as he has retired (as has my butcher, seems all of the old trades are dying). Ok so I went to my local chemist and bought their own brand. What a pile of pooh. it dried so fast that my razor ended up being caked in the dried stuff, (this was a few days ago) Anyway I just made sure that I moistened the brush much more nex time and carried on as normal. How stupid am I??? the soap did not dry this time but, there was friction, cuts (prossibly as I was getting a bit cocky) and the worst razor burn I've ever had.
    Could this be

    1 - the crappy soap?
2 - I just got cocky and applied too much pressure
3 - not paying attention and poor technique
4 - A blunt blade (how long does a feathe blade last, any ideas? it is a wilkinson sword blade).

Hate to be of so little help - but here it goes:
    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    4. Yes

    Or a combination thereof...

Dry lather is obviously bad; pressure will get you burn; dull blade will make you press more and lead to burn; poor technique and inappropriate angles can lead to scraping too

So you have to start eliminating one by one. The lather is the easiest, then a new blade - and then you're left with technique (pressure is just one aspect of it)

    Good luck
    Ivo

Tabac's a good shaving soap to try that's very easy on the skin, and the refills are pretty cheap considering the quality of the soap. And I'm sure you know that Taylor of Old Bond Street, Proraso, St. Charles Shave, and Trumper are all top notch creams.
Just a word of warning...There's nothing worse than out of control razor acquisition disorder!

Sure there is Howard. Razors are relatively cheap when compared to brushes. Ask anyone bitten by BAD and they'll tell you what broke really means.

Yep - one of the very best brush manufacturers. Some might argue - the best. HMW=High Mountain White grade badger hair. Doesn't come cheap...

I'm learning. In a way I wish I was more local to everyone. It'd be so much fun being able to learn face to face with the masters

I went with the Rooney finest and it cured my SBAD as well. But I was lucky, sometimes that just gives you the fever for the good stuff.
