    Question dumb question?

Im considering sr shaving but a quick question do you have to have more than one razor? Ive read "somewhere" that shaving with the same straight every day is bad for your razor. Is it?

No, you can use the same razor for days on end with a good strop and a refresh of the edge when needed. Having multiple blades does help extend the life of a SR tho, it allows the metal to "heal". Actually, the metal edge will deform during shaving and the more time you give it between shaves to recover the better because it will "come back" to close to it's original edge. Stropping will smooth out the little "imperfections".

Welcome to SRP. That is considered to be a myth by most folks nowadays. It is good to have two, or three to be sure you've always got a shave ready razor available. Sometimes a razor may need a little TLC on the hones and if you cannot do it yourself you would have to send it out. There is always the chance of damaging a razor, through carelessness, happens to the best of us. A tap on the faucet when rinsing, slipping from the fingers and hitting the tile floor. Just a good idea to have at least one spare.

Many of the members become razor collectors and having many is the rule rather than the exception for some of us. Not required though. Check out the SRP library beginner's guide if you haven't already, lots of good info . Straight Razor Place Library - Straight Razor Place Library

I was trying to save him from the dreaded RAD. My collection has grown to over 70 razors and other shaving related "stuff", and I only just recently started back with a SR. Granted, I already had 20 or so from years past when I did shave on a regular basis.

IMHO, having more than one razor is a very enjoyable luxury, but definitely not a necessity. Let the RAD commence!

Yeah, it's a "dumb question". So what; you think someone else has to ask all the dumb questions, and you get to ask the really cool ones? Nah... it doesn't work like that. What's more, I guarantee that you'll ask even dumber questions, down the line. Enjoy it -- were bros, here on SRP, and nobody's going to tweet that really stupid question you just asked all over the Internet. It's cool... really.

So, yeah... it's good to have a couple or three razors, regardless of whether you shave daily, or every-other day. In either case, two or three (preferably three) razors will be fine. It's like in baseball (you do watch MLB baseball, right?) One razor "at-bat", one razor "on-deck", and one razor "in the batter's circle". No sweat... it's all worked out.

At the Infantry School we used to tell the soldiers "Don't worry -- the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked." Horse pucky. Many/most of them are stupid, but that's OK... that's the way it's gotta be... ask 'em, get 'em answered, get 'em out of the way. We're all dummies, here... until we get smart (and look out, 'cuz some of these guys have gotten REALLY smart).

Welcome to SRP, and Smooth Shaving!
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

    +1 on JimmyHAD's post

Hey,,,,, I resemble that remark...... I have only 1. I mean had only 1. No, I have 1 for every day of the ...........few months....or so. Say, would you like me to make you a custom 1 ? I have all the stuff. <<< This is a typical story around here.

You only NEED 1. Back ups are nice to have and you may or may NOT NEED one of those. All depends on how careful/accident prone you are.
Be careful out there and get a good razor. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg so 2 might fit into your budget if you shop well.
The only dumb question is the 1 you don't ask :<0) Welcome to SRP

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Welcome to Aboard! Your question has been answered pretty sufficiently at this point. The first straight razor you buy is gonna be the hardest one to purchase. I took months of mulling over my options and trying to figure out what the heck things like 5/8, 6/8, and 9/8 was all referring to. There are so many options at first its daunting, but then it becomes so very exciting to try out everything. After that first razor you are literally gonna have to try with all your might not to buy more. At least I did and lost the battle completely.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

    Welcome to SRP
There are no dumb questions only dumb answers, unless you ask the same question again LOL
My nephew has been running with 1 srt8 for the last 6 months odd and doesn't want another, when I asked the other day if he wanted a back up from my collection he said he has enough and is happy with his Four Point and said he has his shavette if required but doesn't use it much either anymore
    Saved,
    to shave another day.
