Thanked: 0How good are these razors I'm new here
Hi guys
I'm new here and to forums also so please forgive me if I am doing this wrong.
My name is Miguel live in South Africa
I got handed down straight razors from my Gran dad.
I really do not know much about them or if they worth keeping.
I have used one before I think they are amazing so much better then the new razors you get today.
These are the razors that was giving to me
GOTTA 5/8 has 120 engraved on it.
C.V.heljestrand has Mk and 3 crowns engraved also no 24
Joseph Rodger & sons Sheffield.
I will attach pics also
According to my Gran dad the Joseph Rodger and sons is the best one
of them all.
I really like and going to start collecting them too, but how good
are the ones I have? Are they made of good quality.
Would appreciate any help possible
and again sorry if I'm in the wrong forum or wrote this wrong.
Thanks guys

Welcome Miguel,
All three are very nice razors, great quality. Just clean them up a little & keep them oiled.
Read our Library section above when you have time. It will teach you how to maintain them
Thank you for sharing them.

Thanked: 3226Hey and welcome to the forum Miguel. Yes, those are all quality brand razors and appear to be in decent shape. They should clean up and hone up nicely if you want to shave with them. There are some members on here from SA and maybe they will chime in too. Enjoy your razors.

Welcome to the forum. Those are all great razors. I have a Gotta that is one of my favorite and best shavers. Gran dad did good acquiring those. Clean them and learn to use them and enjoy.

Never had a Gotta so I won't comment. I had a C.V. Heljestrand a while back and like an idiot sold it. Now, as far as the Joseph Rodgers & Sons goes, of all the razors I've tried JR&Sons are the best shaving and I love all of mine, wouldn't consider parting with any of them.
My grandfathers on both sides of my family had straight razors but my Aunts & Uncles disposed of them long ago and I would love to have one of them. Being those were your Grand dad's I would get them shave ready, use, keep and treasure them."If You Knew Half of What I Forgot You Would Be An Idiot" - by DoughBoy68

Look to be nice, high quality razors. The Heljie is most likely Bakelite and the Gotta definitely celluloid. The Rogers seems to be a heavy, bone, possibly ivory. hard to tell from the pics.

I rest my case.

Indeed...As all the previous posts have noted. You have three quality vintage razors there.
I can attest, from personal experience with each, that they are all great shavers."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
