I'm just about ready to make my first purchase of a straight. I've read a lot, listened a lot, I spoke to Lynn Abrams and Jim at Vintage blades. Now I really know I don't know much about straight shaving. But, there seems to be a common theme about a first purchase. You don't need to buy the most or even a very expensive razor. In fact I'm thinking it's best to be conservative as the likelihood of screwing up is very good.

It seems that Straight Razor designs is quite the popular place and they're pretty much out of stock on most razors. I'll make my second razor purchase from them. I'll be purchasing this evening from Jim a Dovo, imitation Tortoise basic kit which includes a 3" latigo strop and razor oil. I have a plethora of wet shaving supplies already.

Now I'll be watching many videos on the art and reading like crazy. Thanks to this forum I'm somewhat prepared
