Thanked: 3Hey Pipes,
Sounds like your off to a good start to me (but what do I know anyways haha!) I'm glad its working out well for you. I haven't had any experience with a DE yet so I can't compare but the shop that I went to was Abe's barber shop in West Edmonton Mall by the Gold's Gym. It wasn't a fancy shave by any means though. Just a hot towel, some cream and a shavette. I would definitely like to experience a real shave somewhere where they give you the whole man spa treatment with the warm lather and massage and everything but I don't know if they do that in Edmonton..

Thanked: 0I went to a Art of Shaving barber shop in Las Vegas. It was really good! I haven't been able to find that in Edmonton yet. I have been to Tommy Guns, and these old guys just north of the south gate mall. There is a place called The Mensroom in mayfield common I am going to try this week hopefully. I will let you know how it is.
I just thought I would mention I found a wet shaving store in the WEM a couple months ago. Just a hole in the wall place on the main level closer to the bay I think. They had DE razors and Straights but I'm sure the straights were just factory honed.

Thanked: 3Hey Pipes, how did the Mensroom go? I checked out the store in WEM and no luck in them knowing anywhere to sharpen straight razors aside from the place that I originally purchased my straight razor from. They do have some decent soaps, brushes, safety razors and a couple straight razors but their selection is still very limited as it is such a small store. How was Tommy Guns? I've never heard of that place before. Do they have a good selection of products?

Thanked: 0I wasn't able to go to the mensroom. I thought I could just walk in when they opened up but you have to book ahead. They could get me in two hours later but I didn't want to wait that long on the west end. Tommy guns is in south common and it's a guy version of chatters. I have had good shaves and bad ones there lol but mostly good. They use a product line called dermalogica for their shaves. It's not a wet shaving product but they seem to be able to get a good shave from it. It's not the full spa experience but the best I've found so far.
Dukes north of southgate mall is the other one I've been too. They are 3 pretty old guys and it's more of a real barber shop. They have a machine that dispense warm cream. And they might have some aftershave splashes. Maybe give one of them a try with your next hair cut. The old guys at Dukes might now where to get a straight sharpened. Damn I should have stopped in there before I drove out to work. I'll be in the bush for a couple of weeks now.
Hope any of this helps.
