Default First shave with a "true" straight

I have been using a Feather SS for a few months, never planned on getting a true straight because of the maintenance. I ended up getting a sight unseen from whipped dog. First shave went better than expected. I did a 4 pass. I got BBS face and DFS on my neck and jaw line. The blade is longer than the Feather, which will take a little getting used to. On a side note, I am finding straights to be slightly addicting. I did not have this problem with DEs. I bought a cheap no name to start, then bought a Merkur and never saw the need for another razor. After getting the SS, I have been fighting off the urge to buy a DX. Now that I have decided to go with true straights, I still want the DX and I am already fighting the urge to buy more straights. I find myself looking at stands to hold the collection I know is coming. I now understand other people that suffer from RAD.

Congrats! Be careful, there is no 12 step program to get you out of this mess. Just remember not to chase the ultimate shave through equipment, but rather through skill improvement.

Sounds like you are doing well. Just wait until you start stropping and honing then there are more ad's to get you. At least you know that it isn't the equipment though

I don't think it's chasing the ultimate shave, they're just so shiny lol.

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!

You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!

Congratulations for stepping up to the plate and using an actual 'straight razor' :

As AF mentioned there can be many 'Ads' (Acquisition Disorders) but if you are patient you will find what your 'preferences' are. This age old art is full of preferences! I've found that I 'prefer' 6/8 or larger and again 'preferable' round points. With that said I have many square points and I use them on a regular basis.

Enjoy the Ride! It's a Long Strange Trip but Well Worth the Journey!
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
