Thanked: 0My first shavette shave
Howdy all,
I know others have posted similar topics...and welp, here is mine.
While I won't go into too much detail, I will say that there were three things I would like to note:
1) Shaving WTG was no problem at all for me (most of my facial hair is on my chin and under nose)
2) It was interesting trying to figure out what to do with my hands. I have watched videos and read stuff on SE/shavette shaving, but it is different the first time you do it.
3) Shaving ATG is when I cut myself (nothing bad) and I felt hard to use the shavette ATG. I would like to note that I did re-lathered. I ended up stopping my shave because I did not want to force the blade over my face.
That being said, I am curious if anyone has experienced this shaving ATG? I didn't imagine that it was suppose to be that difficult. Any suggestions?
Overall, it was a good experience when things went well. It was and is a learning experience.

I'm not to far off there from you, only 4 shaves in with a Shavette. I would say it felt difficult, not so much ATG but just the odd positions required on certain areas. But really I wouldn't say it was difficult just more odd/foreign which makes it seem more difficult. I've been practicing between shaves without a blade / holder only just to simulate blade strokes, angles and positions. Maybe that may help for you too. At any rate just keep experimenting with it till it feels comfortable but don't force anything that just feels all wrong because you will probably cut yourself. Hope that helps, and welcome to SRP.
Insert witty statement here, T.B.D.

Thanked: 1I have been using a Shavette for over a year now and I do recall the first shaves being a little rough. The main thing is practice, getting the angle and pressure right. Also, I may be wrong here, but I feel the face has to adjust to a new style of shave. I remember trying an electric razor again (a nice Braun mind you) and it was horrible, so I think the face/hair kind of adapts to which style you are using, be it electric, muti blade, Shavette, or straight razor.
Also, what kind of blade are you using in the Shavette? It did not take me long to decide to try the green insert with the longer and firmer blade and I found that to be an order of magnitude better then the small duel sided blades you need to break in half.

Thanked: 0Thank for the reply guys
My first thought was my angle. I tried again today and it went much better. Still had issues going ATG. Like my hair is super thick or something hahaha
I was thinking blades too. I currently am using merkur de blades. Maybe not sharp enough? I have a green insert and blades but haven't started using it yet.
I'll keep practicing, and I'll give the green insert a try and maybe different blades for the red one.
