Shaving the Nostril
I am very comfortable shaving under my nose in a downward direction (away from the nose), however, I am having a problem shaving the area just below my nostrils. As I cannot get a good angle to get the hair that grows right next to the nostrils, I am at a loss how to shave that area. I cannot allow myself to shave this area in an upward direction, and there is not enough room with my 5/8" round point to shave in a sideways direction.
Any thoughts?
A nice 3/8" by 1" oblique straight blade would be ideal for this extremely sensitive area.

Thanked: 0I fought with this for a while, what helped me was two things.
One- you have to come in perpendicular to your lip and then rotate down to that 30 degree razor angle under your nose.
Two- cheat- turn the razor at a 45 degree angle (I mean the whole razor, think like you're using a mustache brush at an angle). So a normal WTG stroke would be top to bottom, this one would be like a "/".
Streching and making faces helps too...You'll also get some excellent advice from the other members- it's a common problem. Now if we could just conquer the chin...

I shave up (on the upper lip) by grasping the upper lip with my bottom teeth to make it taunt and then holding the blade with both hands go up. This works I do it every morning.

taunt |tônt| |tɔnt| |tɔːnt|
noun
a remark made in order to anger, wound, or provoke someone.
verb [ trans. ]
provoke or challenge (someone) with insulting remarks : students began taunting her about her weight.
taut |tôt| |tɔt| |tɔːt|
adjective
stretched or pulled tight; not slack : the fabric stays taut without adhesive.
• (esp. of muscles or nerves) tense; not relaxed.
This is what Rich is trying to describe.
Think twice please.

Thanked: 369I use the point of my razor to get just inside the nostril and the area of the upper lip just under the nostril. I shave from the center of the nose towards the outter nostril. I do this while bending the tip of the nose up and away with my free hand. This stretches the skin and makes the area to be shaved more accessible. Needless to say, it takes a delicate touch.

Don't you just love wise asses... Especially if they are taut...

round or spike
I have found that with either the round or the spike point, as long as I pull the skin really "TAUT" I can get the razor in there for the sideways strokes. Usually only have about 6 hairs there that I need to cut, but suffice it to say it seems to be the only way to get them.

Isn't this where the Coup De maitre comes into play?
