Thread: Question on WTG

What's the magnification of that edge and did you edit out the rest of the blade?

Also, I've been a 4 pass guy as of late. One north-south, 2nd east-west, 3rd west-east, 4th south-north.

It's 230x on a Dinolite Am3011 usb microscope... No I didn't edit out anything, that's the level it's zoomed into. Yeah I think I will try only a WTG and see how it goes on a fresh razor... But you can't beat them all together!

There is a reason why I don't use magnification that high. It can make any bevel look bad with all those striations that you don't see with a 20x loupe. I'd rather not drive myself crazy.

Yeah but for me it helps a bunch. I alternate the grind direction w/ each grit so I can ensure that I removed all the previous scratches. Plus, I have a point of reference because I know what each grit should look like. But I have great respect for those of you that don't use such a "crutch"!

Not saying using that high a mag is a "crutch" and is probably useful too. Personally I am just too lazy to be bothered to do it. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek. Like most things whatever gets you there is all that counts.
