Pretty well anything that doesn't come from a can and that you use a brush to make will be better than what you are using. There are many different soaps and creams to choose from. There is a forum here just for them. Maybe check it out for ideas

For soap I am using colonels conk which is a glycerin based soap. But when I get done with it I'm going to buy a brand called green mountain which is a tallow based soap. But really many soaps/creams that are tallow or glycerine based would be good. However some are better than others
I'm curious exactly how you make this uberlather. How and in what proportions do you use soap, glycerin, cream and water? Do you work it all in a scuttle?

It will definitely be easier to make in a bowl or scuttle. You mix soap and cream with about 5 to 7 drops of glycerin. Mix adding water till at the right consistency. The trick with soaps and creams is working it properly and theright mix of water. Takes some experimenting to get it right.

You can find a good instruction to make the überlather in the library here. Here is the link:

Okay, I just did several practice runs, with the last being VERY productive. I used Cremo (which I did not expect to produce much lather), and 5 drops of glycerin, the little bit of water I had sitting on top of my soap for a few minutes, and then I swirled my Omega boar brush (new - I do have a somewhat tired badger) on my Proraso soap, then went to down on the mixture in my bowl. I worked it for probably three minutes. It started off more foamy, but as I continued my vigorous whipping it became a nice thick and creamy whip. I was quite happy with it. Now, I wasn't ready to shave. I will do that tonight, using this cream procedure.

Update: I did the same routine, and had the same success with a nice uberlather. My shaving still needs lots and lots of practice, but getting better each time.

I have absolutely no idea where to get glycerin from.

This is starting to get complicated now!

I just bought a bottle yesterday at CVS for $5.99, probably 6 oz.

It is usually available in chemists/pharmacies. If not I bought a litre on ebay.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast
