Thanked: 0First strop advice
Hello all,
I originally sent this to Tony himself, but figured this might make a better forum topic.
I am new to straight razor shaving and would like to order a strop from The Well Shaved Gentleman.
Which of the offered 3 Heirloom #1 3" strops do you guys recommend?
I have 2 razors: a 6/8 Baudad 1/4 hollow wedge, and I just purchased this razor:

I have never used a strop before, so I have no opinions or preferences at this point.
I am also planning on purchasing a pasted paddle strop to help give me some extra time before I have to hone the razors(the razors I have have been honed by members of this site -- I haven't used them yet.) What grade pastes should I have you put on for the pasted paddle strop?
You advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
Chad

Chad, you can't really go wrong with anything you buy from Tony, so just pick the strop that really appeals to you. If he still has bench hones in stock, get one of those and have it pasted with 0.5 micron chromium oxide. I've used it exclusively off the Norton and got some great results.

Thanked: 0I understand that the Latigo has more draw. Would this be better or worse for someone new to stropping?
As for the pasted bench strop, his site says he is sold out. That is what I originally wanted to get. I will have to send Tony an e-mail or give him a call to see if he has any laying around.

Hey Chad, got your e-mail then saw the post. The Latigo has more draw than the Honey Brown or Horsehide. It is the most popular model and will be back in stock in just a few days, The Honey Brown has a very light draw, more like most tradional strops. The Horsehide will fall in between on draw.
The Bench Strops are being discontinued but a limited supply will be back by the weekend as I have been finishing the wide paddles first.
For pastes I suggest 1.0 and 0.5 on any type of paddle, wide, narrow, mine or others. These are the workhorse pastes and for the 0.5 I suggest the chromium oxide as a good choice.

Thanked: 0Ilija and Tony - Thank you so much for your help.
I have decided to go with the latigo strap and the bench strop pasted as Tony said.
Thanks!
