Smile Lost Power in Midst of First (proper) Straight Razor Shave

After 3 weeks using a Personna Monsieur Charles shavette, I welcomed home my sight unseen from Whipped dog this evening. It felt relatively "tuggy" on the stubble, but I got to the middle of the 3rd pass with no irritation or blood loss....and the lights went out!

Big winds are hitting Western PA tonight, and the few seconds in the dark bathroom with a razor poised at my neck were sobering! After my UPS on the computer stopped beeping and the lights came on, I "stayed calm and carried on."

Slightly disappointed with the the lack of a smooth shave, I finished up with the shavette.

I fiddled with the strop for 20 laps and am urging whiskers to grow for the next round....

Glad to hear you didn't cut yourself in the dark. That could be quite scary.

You might want to try 50 travels on the leather instead of 20.

And the waiting for hair to grow back at the beginning sucks - it still sucks months later too.

Yep, I did 60 laps just for good measure. Results were better tonight with less tugging and a smoother shave...and the lights stayed on the whole time!

Lights stayed on here, must be on a different grid. Anyways, glad to hear you braved it out.

I sometimes feel the same way, having started with a shavette. I rarely get quite as good a shave with a straight as my best shavette shaves. Whicj is not to say never. Usually my second shave after honing is the best. It begins to degrade from there. Bad stropping technique? Bad shaving technique? I don't know, but I rarely use the shavette anymore. Probably once every couple of months.
