Chin whiskers
Any tips on getting a close shave on the chin and upper lip. Fairly new shaver and find I have to do three or more passes and am still not quite getting bbs. All those passes tend to cause irritation so I tend to do just one pass with straight then another with a disposable. But I would rather get away from using disposable all together.
Is this just something that takes experience to get better at?

I had this exact problem with my first 10-15 shaves. I found that the angle of my blade and direction of travel were the culprits. Try using a different angle or direction as the hair on chin may grow sideways as mine does rather than straight down. When I lift my angle just a hair but still keeping it under 30 degrees was the difference in night in day with the ease that the whiskers came off. I am only on like shave 30-32 but this is one thing helped loads. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy shaves my friend

Welcome Newfie816: Try using your off hand and stretch the skin on your chin while shaving. I get much smoother results when I stretch my skin. Also go to youtube and search for the (three pass shave). Watching this gentleman S.R. shave while he listens to classical music improved my technique tremendously.

Thanked: 1587Hello and Welcome to SRP!
I have years of shaving experience and unsurpassable skills with a straight razor, plus I am immensely modest. Let me share with you my secret for a close shave on the chin area - angle, pressure, stretching and buffing. Get those bits down and you'll have a BBS chin in no time!

After a WTG, I use short scything strokes with the blade choked up in my hand leaving about an inch of blade exposed. I also stretch the skin with my opposing hand. It took me a number of shaves to get my chin down.

Thanked: 4827the keys for a close and irritation free shave are skin stretching, blade angle and blade pressure. Too much pressure irritates my skin as fast as anything else. Of course this is with a proper shave ready blade, and a good lather. I think practice practice practice goes a long way too.

Thanked: 1I'm new too. I started in the beginning of September and I find the chin to still be a little tough to get perfectly. Follow the advice of the members with experience above. Stretching and Scything helps. I still don't have perfect chin whiskers, but I can tell you it gets better every week. Two weeks ago it still felt really rough. Now, I can still feel whiskers but they are much closer to the skin than what they were.
Celebrate small improvements. I've found that focusing on a good visual shave is a great goal. As time goes on, you'll get closer and closer to BBS. I'm still trying but having fun doing so!
