Thanked: 7The gentlemen of this forum are top notch as you have seen! Let us know how you progress, just take it slow and don't rush. It could be a few weeks/months before you feel comfortable with your technique and see and feel the results.
I am eager to see the difference in these razors compared to the Gold Dollar to see what makes a good straight razor. I am also interested in seeing what you guys consider good honing to compare and contrast how i honed the Gold Dollar.
Im quite excited to shave with these razors to witness the difference between these and the gold dollar.

Thanked: 7Thanks major.
I just received it in the mail. Wow that is a lot of blades. I compared the gold seal versus the gold dollar and I must say yours is way sharper. i guess i am not as good as honing as i thought. I thought the gold dollar was a hair thin blade, but the gold seal is much thinner. It also makes quite a different sound on the strop. I am assuming these are qualities to look for in a decent razor? I haven't yet tried shaving with either, but will do.
Again thank you.
EDIT:
I just shaved with the gold seal. What a difference. This is the first time i didnt have to use a styptic pencil at all. I can definitely tell the difference. I can go against the grain without any problem. Before it would tug and cut. This just sliced through no problem. Wow. I had so much fun i was over shaving (if there is such a thing). Thank you.Last edited by metulburr; 10-27-2014 at 11:31 PM.

Thanked: 3226Glad it all finally came together for you with the Major's help.
Now you really know that being able to hone a knife does not guarantee you can hone a straight razor with any success. Now you can believe why the Gold Dollar is not a recommended razor to buy as a first razor. All it takes is a shave with a shave ready vintage straight to prove the difference between something that looks like a straight and something that is a straight razor. Not to worry seems that those are common errors. Happy shaving in the future.

I am quite pissed. I really hate the US postal service. I have no idea what exactly you sent because the package was ripped open with rubber bands holding it together when i received the envelope. I am not sure if you sent one razor or two? I only received one. The orange imperial razor. However it is broken. I don't think you would of sent a broken razor, but i could be wrong.
I have pictures of what i received on my end.
The first image is what was in the envelope. The second one is how the envelope was put in my mail box. The third one shows the end ripped open.
I am quite angry now at the USPS. IS there a way to fix the razor? Can i somehow make USPS accountable? Or is it SOL? That really sucks, because this razor feels wicked sharp.
EDIT:
I called the postmaster, but i just missed him today. So i will call tomorrow. I have a feeling i know what happened. Probably the envelope chewed up by the conveyor belt again in Rochester.Last edited by metulburr; 10-29-2014 at 09:54 PM.

Send a broken razor??? I am not sure how to respond to that . I will take the high road.
Sir I can assure you that is not how this community operates. SOL no such thing. I live for this SH@t.
I did send 2 razors. Neither was broken. Return the broken one to me and I will fix it.
PIF does not include mailing broken busted razors. It is embarrassing and not how WE take care of each other.
I cannot keep sending 2 razors endlessly. I will make the Imperial right. I will resend it in a BOX.
get it back to me and I will make it right.
This is the best I can do.
Please accept my apologies for the postal service.
[SIZE=3]Send it back . I dont give junk gifts. I will make this right. My name is on this . I dont operate this way. My word is my bond.MY handshake is a good as Gold. Thanked: 7Its not your fault, i know. I just didnt know if it was the mail or not. I apologize if you took it to offence by me thinking you may send a broken razor. The USPS just piss me off so much because this is not the first time this has happened.
A year ago USPS sent an empty package with one side ripped off. It use to contain a USB stick containing my only existing photos of my wedding. The same time I sent a check to the DJ for the wedding in which he received it and it looked like it was chewed by a dog. Im just quite surprised at how often this happens. Very frustrating.
Hopefully it DOES return back to you, and not just an empty package, lol. I will send it back.
PS...I attempted to rig it to an ebay junk straight razor handle (that i purchased WAY before joining this forum). So ummmm, yeah, you may get a chuckle when you see it now.

OP (original poster metulburr) this is what PMs are for. I certainly understand the frustration of waiting for the mail and being upset, but I'd suggest you not call out a charity provider over what they might (or in this case sent you more and better of) sent you in the public forum. Excuse me, but "grow up" (internet wise), my friend.
Just call me Harold
