Nickayl, if you are new to straight shaving, you might want to consider a balm over a splash (lotion) which will add some needed moisture while your skin repairs itself.

Nivea is inexpensive and performs well. Castle Forbes is a bit more expensive but is very good. There are many others that are great but the list can be overwhelming.
The best preshave is simply a shower or hot towels. Some like preshave oil or a cream such as Proraso Pre/Post but it isn't necessary. Experiment with different things and determine what works best for you.
Good luck!

Pinaud Clubman. When I cracked open my first bottle the smell gave me a flashback to when my Dad would take us to the barber. It's still a favorite.

Nancy Boy - Blossom After-Shave Balm, or Cooling After-Shave Gel
Saint Charles Shave - Bay Rum, Avacado, or Oakmoss Lavendula. They have many others to choose from as well.
Both of those vendors sell small samples so you can try whatever you want w/out committing to purchasing full bottles.

For a masculine splash: try Alpa Fougere. It's labelled as an EdC, but it's great as an aftershave.
For a balm: try 444, right after you apply Alpa. Brrrrrracing.
I have also found that Ogallala's Bay Rhum and Sandalwood aftershave splash works well at hydrating my skin after a shave, so that I don't always need a balm.
Good luck!
