Thanked: 41Last night I did something a little different....
So it's been about 15 years since I shaved out of a canteen cup with cold water but I do remember it not being very enjoyable. Last night before my shave I was watching one of those survival shows and was thinking about the waste both with water and energy to make hot water so I decided to try a cold water shave . My mama bear lime ice lathered great as usual 3 passes and some clubman lime sec to finish . Gotta say I may change , a nice easy shave and better for the environment. Have a great day gents!

Thanked: 3226Glad it worked out for you. That is one of the reasons I switched from hot water shaving using a scuttle to bowl lather with to face lathering. The soap/cream lathered the same and it simplified things too.

Way to go. Cold-water shaving is the only way to go. It worked for our grandaddies!

After watching The Dirty Dozen as a teenager I always assumed cold water shaving was a punishment. Since reading about cold water lather, cold rinsing etc. I have had the smoothest and most comfortable shaves ever. Oh yeah - and zero irritation.

Way to go! And it's not necessary for it to be cold all the way, all the time. I'm sure the old timers used what ever temperature water they had available and had decent results. I miss the hot lather, my face doesn't, so we compromise on occasion with a tepid/lukewarm water shave and my psyche is happy.

It's intersting to see the "cold water shave" movement picking up a greater and greater following. Can any of the members who have been around longer tell me if this is a cyclic thing that fizzles and re-appears everyonce in awhile? I'm not saying I dont agree (and I have even moved down to a lulkewarm shave with a cold rinse myself), but I don't remember seeing the topic discussed as much when I first joined up.

MattCB, we both joined the same month last year and I also don't recall much being written at that time. But I will say the movement is growing since a number of cold water shavers, myself as an example, have been willing to write about what it has done to enhance our shaving experience. I'd say that there was a strong hot water/lather movement at the beginning of the forum, probably due to thinking that they needed to present the wet shaving movement in as modern a setting as possible. It is conceivable that as the movement grew and shavers were discovering that wet shaving was not doing it for them due to, as it turns out, irritation from various sources. From too much pressure to allergic reaction to product ingredients and various skin conditions/afflictions. I remember reading a small post about cold water shaving and what it could do for you and that started me on my present path as an advocate for finding the temperature that gives you the best shave for your face. And I am not shy in being vocal about it either. And there is the Polar Bear Club if anyone is interested.
