A damp household sponge works well also. Just wipe gently in the direction you strop.

After I've used the hot wet cloth on my face, I drape it over the edge of the sink and wipe gently on that. I never hold it under the running water from the tap. Hope you can sort that chip out. Doesn't look too serious.

I keep a large, wet, household sponge with a paper towel covering it and wipe my blade as needed. Avoids dings and chips and thrown away lather loaded paper towel keeps the drain from clogging up after awhile from the shaving soap lather.

I like to use a wash cloth draped over the faucet so easy to wipe and if I do use the faucet the razor is protected by the wash cloth.

I've got a couple razors with floppy scales. If I'm not careful when using them the edge can hit the scales when closing and cause that kind of damage.

Are those scales home made? If so, they were probably made too thin.

Nope, one is a vintage Joseph Elliot's and the other is a Double Arrow. My homemade scales are much stiffer, even at .08 "

I guess their age has made them a little floppy.

I will have to switch to using a towel to wipe off the lather. Probably better that way, so I don't get the pivot pin wet...
