Looking For a Mentor in Central Florida
If anyone local is interested, I'd really like a mentor to meet with in person to help get me through the learning curve. I live in Winter Haven and am willing to travel to surrounding areas. I work in Tampa and my days off are M-W. Due to the long commute and 10 hour shifts, I'm rarely available Th-Sun.
I have my own gear except for a honing stone. I intend to get one soon, and learning to properly hone is high on my priority list.
If you're in the area and willing to take on a new SR shaver I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

Have you looked up mentors in your area? Do a search and send them a PM. Also how is your shaving experience ? Better to learn how to shave before worrying about honing, Stropping and shave technique need to be good or honing doesn't mean much. So go slow and look for the guys in Florida. Tc

Yes, I've tried looking up mentors in my area but was unsuccessful in finding one. I posted here in hopes one would see my post and be willing to mentor.
My shaving experience has been decent, though I feel it could be better. I have a feeling my GD razor needs honed.

Maybe I'm way off here. I used the same search function earlier and found the same list. None of the results have the Mentor badge. Am I to just randomly email members that don't put themselves out there as Mentors and hope they'll do it? I thought my post with a request for a mentor would be the least obtrusive way to find one if there is in fact one available.

OK, I'm refining my search by recent activity and see that the badge shows up when I click on individuals…it's not on the master list. I'll see what I can find. Thanks.

For the record, I'm still looking for a local mentor. I PM'd a couple folks in the area and heard back from one that declined and didn't hear back from the other. Not complaining, just stating the situation. I've now got 18 SR shaves under my belt and am getting excellent results. I think I've got the stropping down but would like if someone could watch and let me know if I need to adjust my technique. I haven't put a razor to a hone yet, so direction there would be nice when my projects from Ebay arrive.
I'm learning by reading and trial and error, but direction is always nice.
