Square tip is nice, but prefer the spike points, get into some real fine tuning with one and I prefer the look....as mentioned...YMMV.

Round = nice, calm and gentle. Square = Rough, mean and fearsome.

I was a little afraid of square points, until I tried one. From that time forward all of my razors have had near spike points AND near spike heels.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Personally I have preferred square, just easier trimming around and squaring up my sideburns and goatee, though I do like the rounds at times too.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

We all have our own pref's when it comes to this.
In all honesty though, it doesn't really matter much imho.

Rounds: More forgiving. Square: Better at getting those stray whiskers, but more likely to bite you. Spanish: Just way cooler and better than the rest.

Square is unforgiving in the neck area, if you aren't using the heel and trying to scrape with the tip. With a round I find you'll rarely cut yourself but hey now we can't forget the Barber's notch.
