Default Newbie needs help near Charlotte NC

To anyone who is an experienced honer living close to China Grove NC ( just north of Charlotte)

I have a great friend who is 80 years old and wants to learn to SR shave. He has a 4k,8k Norton combo and has been trying to get his new dovo shave ready. I have explained to him that he can set the bevel with the 4k but a 1k would be quicker and he is willing to purchase whatever he needs. He really needs a local mentor if anybody out there is willing and lives close enough. I am way over yonder in Idaho so cannot help a lot

You're right on the 1k for setting the bevel. If you can't find anyone local to help, Lynn has made some seriously helpful videos on this very subject.

Here is his video on setting a bevel:

And here is his video on finishing it up with a 4k/8k norton:

If no one closer steps up, I'll be in the Charlotte area the week of Christmas.

You might want to PM HidestoArt. He's had the benefit of time w/ some of the best hands in the world. (queue the Monty Python clip: you lucky, lucky bastage...) 'Don't know how his time is these days, but it would be worth checking.
