Thanked: 0First straight razor
I am getting a straight razor for the first time and I have been doing a ton of research into what razor I should get, I'm really leaning towards this Thiers-Issard SING-5/8-188-BO I was wondering if I get some thoughts on this razor, is it a good razor to start with? Thanks!

Thanked: 634Looks like a fine razor. Have you ever used a straight or shavette? If not it should be OK. Just be aware of the tip which can bite on newbies due to lack of experience. I actually started decades ago with razors from garage sales. Taught myself to hone. Even today we experienced users make a mistake and the razor wins. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I'm sure that you'll be happy with the quality of that 5/8 blade but for the record, I have seen 2 new TI razors with major blade warp. Sweet stuff with a great reputation but unfortunately I'm spooked!
Have you considered J.A. Henckels, Boker, Wacker or Revisor? These are some of my recommendations to someone looking for a high quality razor at an affordable price. If you need some websites to check out, just ask!The best American who ever lived? John Wayne.

Good suggestions above. Another name to add to the list to consider is Ralf Aust. While I don't have first-hand experience with them, they have a growing reputation amongst buyers of new razors.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Definitely a quality razor. Would suggest something cheaper with rounder ends for a beginner. The rounder ends mean less likely hood of cutting yourself and cheaper as beginners tend to drop, chip, etc to their first razor.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 55Revisors also a very reasonable price if bought from their own site, not done myself but had a good look. Believe also little cheaper than marked price if not in germany, though please don't quote me on that.

Make sure it is "shave ready"... truly shave ready. Not all razors are prepared to shave from the vendor.

Thanked: 127In my eyes you cant do nothing wrong with this Razor, i have/had some similar and about three with the No.188 Mark on it (i guess that the Stock No. Means 5/8" Size, 188 Blanket, Bocote, the Spartacus Etching is only a TM, nearly the same Razor with round Head was avaible as Loup et Belier and without Etching). If its really the same i had the chance to use it will be (if proper sharpened) a very good Razor, possibly with a more rigid Blade than the modern Solingen Razors use to have, good for stiffer beard if you ask me.
