    Default Skin stretching

This may be a stupid question but is it possible to over-stretch your skin? What is the purpose of skin stretched?

skin stretching helps to raise the hairs as well as to help eliminate cuts. too much slack skin make more of a catch point for the blade. don't think one can stretch the skin too tight. pull the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

I think that before you over stretched it there would be some indications that you should not be doing it that hard. Basically you are flattening your skin and keeping in from moving so you can get a nice clean stroke. I suppose it probably helps to raise the whiskers a little too. If you stretch your skin and run your fingers over your stubble you will be able to feel a direction of growth etc for your whiskers. As we age it becomes way more important but even the youngsters with tight smooth skin will reduce the cut risk and get a closer, more comfortable shave. The younger guys are more holding their skin than stretching it I think.

I suppose if you wind up with a waddle like a turkey next week, you will know the answer.

I don't think its possible to over stretch your skin. I believe you would be feeling a very painful sensation. As Rezdog said stretching your skin is to flatten it to get a nice clean stroke. I stretch my skin but being a young buck its just because that's what gets a cleaner stroke and a closer stroke. It also helps get hard to reach areas in more accessible places. i.e. around the jawline.

If you begin stretching the skin on your lower neck upwards and your neck skin is blocking your vision then yes you have stretched it too far.

If your belly button becomes the dimple on your chin, then yes, you've stretched your skin too far!!

As stated above, stretching helps the closer shave by raising the whiskers and if your skin is not tight and flat, razor edge cut into your skin instead of gliding on the surface.
