I learned to shave with the full hollow razors. Now with many shaves under my belt I prefer a 1/4 or 1/2 hollow grind razor. They just work better for me.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was suspecting that my honing was a potential issue in the first place so the best way to eliminate that is to take sound advice when it is given and get it professionally honed and see if that improves things for me. Not sure since the barbers shavette had similar results but it will tell me whether I need to simplify what I'm trying to learn, what kind of razor I may lean towards etc.

Also wanted to say that I am very humbled and impressed by the community here. As a new member and only a few hours after posting my questions I had an offer from a member to hone my dovo. I won't mention names, but it meant a lot to see that people reach out and are willing to help others learn and appreciate this hobby.

Welcome to SRP, This is the place to learn the art of shaving.
I personally like larger Razors (7/8, 8/8) but I do have some smaller ones I like to use as well. With the smaller blades like my Torrey 992 some times its just a slight adjustment of the blade angle on the pass that makes the difference between a pull or a smooth pass. Don't give up this takes some time to learn and then master but it is well worth the effort.

This does not surprise me at all. When I first joined there were quite a few people who reached out and offered sound advise to me. They helped me change my decision on the first razor to purchase and helped me avoid some noob mistakes. I have encountered nothing but Class A individuals here. I have frequented many message boards in my time and have never come across a more helpful bunch of folks.
