    Talking Another Step Closer

Hi folks, I recived this as a late Christmas present today, I've had a skim through and enjoyed what ive read. I will give it a thorough going over but I now have something to keep me going until I take the Straight Razor plunge.

    Cheers

Nice. I keep hearing about that book. I guess I need to get a copy for myself.

EDIT: Read it here for free ^^^

The pantent ran out on the book so you can read online for free. You can read the whole thing in an hour or so.
Chapter on shaving includes right handed only, he does not use the left hand, only for stretching. Okish, not great IMO.

You are right it took about an hour to read. Really it is interesting that alot of what was in the book you can read about on this site. I think it is really a good read for noobies like me. The only thing that was missing was when he wrote about lathering the strop on page 40 he doesnt say what the lather is? Do you think he meant soap?

I have put an hour aside tomorrow to have a proper read through the book, hopefully I can give a review then.

I've got that on my digital reader. I like the photos, and it's good to see some of the concepts hold true--it's really not the rocket science some make it out to be.

As a noob I would have liked to see more info about honing, grits and strop paste.

Have you guys read any other books? I have mantics free ebook and it's excellent but limited info on SRs.

Honing and shaving are slightly different disciplines I suppose. I haven't read the book mind you so i don't know what he says (or doesn't) about it.

With regards to strop lathering - yes just your shaving soap.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

So due to this thread I looked for other books and found eBook Standard Guide to Razors 3rd Edition - General Reference Antiques & Collectibles Ebook

Just started reading and it's wonderful so far. I'm currently reading about the history. Pictures are fantastic. At 5/10 bucks, it is essential reading for SR enthusiasts. (on first impressions)
