Thanked: 4Sorry for my novice question...when you talk about the 5/8 DOVO best quality do you mean the 100 (half hollow shoulderless) or the 101 (full hollow with stabilyzer)?
I'm close to buy my first SR for real use and better to know what to buy.
I've soft whiskers and delicate skin (unfortunately)

Thanked: 1Hello again;
Am I right to think that the gold leafing of the spine and the blade will fade with the stripping?
Thanks

Thanked: 1Hello everybody;
So I got my new razor. I followed the advises of the veterans and I bought a Dovo Best Quality 6/8 in black. My choice was also made easy by the fact that they did not have the Bismarck in stock.
The vendor told me that it is shave ready from the factory. I have stropped it already (20 passes in the linen part and 40 on the leather one) and will have my first shave tomorrow....
Since the strop is a thin one I am using an X pattern...what pressure should I apply...weight of the blade of a bit more?
Thanks

Weight of the blade only but if it has the factory edge it won't be shave ready and will likley be a bad shave. Send it to a pro for honing and start right with a shave ready razor.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 1I could not wait so I had a go at a shave and indeed the razor did not feel as sharp as my shavette by a long shot so I ll have to have it sharpened.
Can I expect a properly honed SR to be as sharp as a Shavette?
