In response to your e-mail to Shopsmith concerning placing an order.
Shipments outside the United States may be subject to custom charges
which is the responsibility of the purchaser. Prices are as follows:
    521005 4000 grit water stone $ 6.99 each
    521006 8000 girt water stone $10.99 each
If you order one each the shipping charge to Australia is $65.30. If
you order more than one each, the shipping charges will be higher. If
you wish to order, please reply with a complete mailing address and
charge card number with expiration date.

A total of $83.28USD which equates to $99.60AUD...Suddenly these stones don't seem so cheap...Considering I can purchase a Norton 4000/8000 combo locally for $115.00AUD shipped.
Sorry to hear about this chopper ---is there any other way to get around it?

I just started my journey with a hone recently too (this week actually) and I'm pleased with the results so far. I took two ofthe Polish Razors and got them cutting sideburn/cheek hair no problem (not like butter, but that's for later). I also took a J Henckels that I got while surfing the bay and got it cutting hairs on a pasted strop (still not butter).
Funny how we came in on the same month and started honing in the same month...
Still need to get these razors to slice through some chin hair (brillo pad)

We could be a team like Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson... except I can't think off you as Owen...you're more of an Indiana Jones...and I'm more like...no I'm like Jackie

    Way to go, Justin!

Now, I do think that you may enjoy this even more if you get a fine barber's hone to use after the 8K and before the chromium... Too bad good Swatys are kinda expensive lately...

Actually, you can probably just try boron before the chromium too - this should be cheap.

Oh, and did you try the newspaper thing? Might like this too

    Cheers

Thank you for the expert advise Ivo --- I was thinking about getting some Boron --now I know it's a good idea.

    Expert -

And I don't even have boron carbide - I usually use a Coticule or an Escher before the Cromium

(I have to check my father's pipes - he used to work in Scandinavia, maybe I'll score a Bo or something )

    Cheers

You will always remember your first one (I think this applies to razors as well as girls) lol

Good job, Justin! I wish I had seen that earlier.

But I really do like the Norton 4K/8K. I have had a fair amount of success myself this week. I honed up a couple of my straights and it has made a world of difference in my shaves! Now I just need a chromium paddle strop and I will be good to go.
