    Default Dry Box storage?

AIPO Analog Series AS-25 Dry Cabinet (25L) with Digital Display - Black (Guarantee Lowest Price in Malaysia!) ShaShinKi - Malaysia First & Largest Online Camera Shop

Anyone use one of these to store your straight razor? You can set the humidity to your settings. No more need for oil? Can this be bad for scales?

Looks a bit overkill me thinks.
    I'll stick with my TufGlide

    That is my question.

What is the lowest temp for a 10% RH?

I would be hesitant to put horn or celluloid in this device. Warping and shrinkage would be possible, JMO.

Having worked in environmental simulation, I know bad things can happen very quickly. Controllers fail, heat coils short, dehumidifiers fail.

If the cooler coils fail, the controller calls for heat and you have moisture, the blades will rust quickly.

IMHO, I would stick to drying the blades and storing them outside the bath. YMMV

The KISS principle. I'd stick with oil.

A simple box with a small gel pack and some oiled blades seems to work fine for me.

That dry box is for camera gear in very humid climates to avoid fungus growth on the optics. I too am thinking that is over kill for most of us.

Seems like a lot of variables to go wrong. Clean them properly, dry them properly and stick them in a airtight container with silica packs. Simple and effective.

    RedGladiator,

For me, I go for the 'economy' approach

I use Sentry Solutions Tuff-Glide on my razors, and they are stored in 1L Klip-Lok containers from Sainsbury's - these have a hermetic seal.

I have some old Sheffield razors that have been treated and stored in the above fashion for ca. five (5) years, and they are still in pristine condition

(NOTE : I usually use RIG grease for long term storage)

As an aside, if you have razors with celluloid (nitrate, acetate) scales, be very careful when storing them in hermetically sealed containers - check for 'scale rot' often !

    Have fun

    Best regards
