    Smile Beginner shaving kit?

    Hello and greetings from Singapore!

You guys have got a great forum going here! I'm new to the straight razor shaving world, and I've been googling straight razors until I found this gold mine of information.

My hubby's birthday is coming up, and he's mentioned how much he enjoyed shaving with a straight razor when he was younger, but I don't know anything about straight razors... I was hoping to get a straight razor for him, but it doesn't seem as simple as just buying the razor.

Outside of introducing him to this website/forum and all the instructive posts and videos, I want to surprise him with his first set of straight razors + strope + preshave oil and cream and all the essentials you need to shave...

If anyone could just point me in the right direction for a beginner's all-in-one straight razor kit that I can purchase online/locally, that would be just lovely

    Thank you kindly, in advance!

    With gratitude,
    Shermin

ps - I'm sorry if this has been covered in a post before; I couldn't seem to find any sticky threads on beginner shaving kits (I'll thank you to point me in the right direction if so). Cheers!

pps - also aware that he might cut himself shaving (although he has used a straight razor before), but he'll learn eventually, with your resources (it's a risk we're willing to take for a clean, longer-lasting shave hehehe >:}, since his stubble comes back really quickly, and dark, too) thank you~

    Welcome to the SRP forum!

Everything that you/he needs to know is located in the SRP Library. There is a lot of good info there. Make sure to watch some of the videos, as they will help a lot, as well.

Great, got it, thanks a lot! I've found the page on equipment and items that come in sets, but I don't suppose there is an all-in-one set that comes with the razor, strope, oil, soaps & creams and brush, is there..? Or a razor blade and strope set, at the least... I can go shopping for the oil, soaps/creams (and maybe even brush) no problem - seems like something more familiar in a woman's domain

Wonderful, thanks a lot - any lead is helpful. There's so much information (and I'm so far out of my element), it's daunting. Cheers, appreciate your help!

Avoid cheap. There are many sets out there that sound good but the steel isn't. Look at the what to avoid thread :<0)

I think that you would have better results if you put your own set together. The DE set that I purchased was fair, but the brush was mushy. The first thing that I did was replace the brush with one that had a lot more backbone.

A Thiers-Issard round point razor would be a good starter razor and most shaving soaps are pretty good these days. There are several threads on the SRP, for recommended brushes, soaps and strops. Just a thought, good luck with your search.

I will add another vote for srd. I did a fair amount of research and found that the prices were competative even with shipping added. You will receive a shave ready razor and can customise the kit to what siuts you and all the items will be quality kit that will last. Shipping is fast and customer service is excellent.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
