Thread: Cutting my strop

I cut my first strop too. I think most of us do. It's a matter of flipping the razor at the right time. Just think of your first strop as a beginners practice strop. Don't worry about damaging or ruining it. Once you can strop correctly and stop nicking it, treat yourself to a new, longer strop. You'll have earned it! Good luck.

Thanked: 2Reading this as another SR newbie who has indeed made some very shallow cuts on his first strops, I'm wondering: are there minor nicks on a strop that won't cause problems? For instance no sooner had I switched to my second, back-up "poor man's" strop from Whipped Dog this morning, thinking my technique was so much better, than I took a very small superficial slice near the top edge. I can sand it down, of course, but realistically does this shallow nick cause a problem while stropping?

Thanked: 1Actually I was pretty confident with my stropping technique until I saw the nicks and even then I thought that someone had used my strop and nicked it, it couldĀ“t be me.....It took me some thinking to understand how I had cut the strop.
It is a good lesson and now I am being more careful at the change of direction...learning curve....

Thanked: 0I bought a nice "Roo" strop with my first kit and promptly nicked it. Felt like a tool(especially for not buying a cheaper one to learn on), but it fixed up well since it is 3" wide. I think everyone nicks up their first strop.
