Best Shave to Date
hey guys
been shaving for just under 3 weeks i should say about 1 week with a true shave ready razor because my RenRen razor was a razor shaped blunt knife...lol.
i let my stubble grow out 2 days so i could more easily judge the direction of the hair then I shaved after the first shave i had only stubble under my jawline and my chin, lip, and cheeks were almost bbs so i decided to make a xtg pass and try to clean up my neck a bit.... after a few nicks in the hard to get flat areas i looked great.. it felt bit sore so i stopped there and applied nivea after shave lotion for sensitive skin and feel like I'm improving my technique and my shaves.
can't wait to shave tomorrow and focus on my neck.. i'll leave my top lip for last because i've found it hard to shave i still try but will not focus on it yet.
thanks to all the members here for you advice and for your support hopefully i can repay the effort by helping others on here.

Good job, keep it up. Not that much ahead of you, so I know just how you feel. When I finish shaving, I start looking forward to the next one. I have a mustache and have for about 40 years, so I don't have the upper lip issue. I did put away my cartridge razor a week ago and that was a great day. Also working on XTG and have it down fairly well on the neck but need more time to get it on the cheeks. Not going to rush it, when it's time it will work. My biggest problem in doing my chin in the center bottom portion. I'm kind of thin and when I watch the videos I think "wish my chin was that flat and smooth".
Keep up the good work but most of all enjoy it.

Thanked: 1Good to hear, I myself am very new to straight shaving and I will say today was my best shave to date. Received my SRD Sandalwood soap and it was a very nice addition. I did two passes today, yes I am inpatient, but taking my time and being careful, cheeks down then from the nose back. Like apipeguy, I sport a 'stache and goatee so have no issues with the upper lip nor chin at the moment. The wife doesn't like the 'stache off cause then I look younger than her and I am older than her, so it has to stay. My largest challenge is my glasses and getting a good line of sight to see what i am doing.
Have fun everyone and a great day as well!!

Bravo, Neil.
Anyone who can't remember that feeling of 'can't wait 'til the next shave', simply has a failure of memory. The very idea that something so wicked sharp could feel so smooth is a bit outrageous. Then, the way it leaves your skin - being able to feel the most subtle changes in air movement or temp - its pretty different. The biggest part is how it changes an annoying chore into a pleasure that can be done every day. That's huge.
'Not quite 5 yrs later, I will do my 'expedient' shaves, and they're still much better and more pleasant than the former bloodbath. If I take a bit more time, it still gives pleasure to rub the difficult areas and be satisfied they're smooth (faceterbate). It continues to be very satisfying.
On learning - its exciting, so we want to get good at it quickly. Oddly, there's no rush, and you'll get alot better whether or not you work at it. I guess its another way of saying: relax and enjoy. You're already very well on your way.

If you are of the age of bifocals as am I, I have two pairs of glasses with just the bifocal Rx. One for computer work and the other for shaving. They are small lenses and don't interfere with shaving strokes. The only time I shave without them is when trimming in the sideburn area. Saved a lot of close peering in the mirror or craning my head and neck in unnatural ways.
