    Default Advice needed

Hello to all, i have few questions about the cutting edge of a straight razor, i have to say that i'm a noobie on the subject(4) shave whit a straight and(9) whit a shavette. My first question for my straight i received a straight from whipped dog who was shave ready, is it my technic who is not good or my stropping, i have lots of difficulty to cut the whiskers of my face. Has for my shavette i didn't any difficult cutting the wiskers, even on my first shave on my shavette i was able to do 3 pass Whitout major cuts or nicks. My second question is i get razor burn on my face whe i use my straight after 2 pass even if i do WTG, is it my angle or is it the blade?? Is my stropping is right? I only have a leather strop and my routine of stropping is 20 laps after the shave and 40 laps before shaving. When i stroppe i make sure the blade is flat on the leather and i also cross strop cause my strop is 2" wide. I know i'm still in the learning process but it's not fun to get razor burn. I would like some advices

My advice would be to use less angle with the straight than you use with shavette. Also, when I started out i was using way too much pressure. Try a lighter touch and see if the razor burn goes away. Finally, you might increase your laps on the strop. I think 60 is a common number.

Welcome to SRD Papabear11: Be sure your razor will pop leg or arm hair at the mid length level. This will ensure your razor is shave ready sharp. Use less of a shaving angle with your S.R. verses you shavette. Watching these videos will help you develop your shaving technique. I use this Neutrogena product in my pre-shaving routing. It really helps eliminate razor burn.

+1 to Leatherstockiings - I am a newbie too (5 shaves) but not having probs with burn. I keep the blade pretty close to flat on my face and do not use pressure at all. Short strokes, some overlapping.
Try this video if you haven't already looked at it.

    60 laps before.
Many people (including mysel) do strop after the shave to clean and dry the blade.

You may have dulled your razor through improper stropping. Maybe time to send to one of our SRP Canadian members to be re-honed and made "Shave Ready"

Your probably right cause i did the test whit the hair and i have hard time to cut it? I took a hair on my chest and i had difficuty to cut it. Has for my stropping technnic is it the # of laps cause i didn't put much pressure on the razor and i was making sure to cross strop ??
