    Default D/Duck Special No 1

    Hi

I have just purchased a D/D Special No 1. I must say I was surprised at how light the blade was, maybe even a bit disappointed. Is this normal? I am new to straight razor shaving and find it easier to shave with a heavier blade!!

    Regards Alan

    It's my favorite.
Its light but I'd been liking it. Originally I found my Filarmonica 7/8's cleaver to be a more enjoyable shave, the heft appeared to make it easier for me, but now that I'm more used to weilding a straight edge, I find myself enjoying the Special No. 1.
It's also helpful that I'm not as prone to sticking the toe into my skin a bit.

I've got one as well. Yes it's a 4/8 and is really light weight, but is also one of my best shavers.

You might want to get something bigger to impress your friends with and just keep the DD for shaving with .

The special number 1 came in all kinds of configurations from spike point to roundpoint from 4/8 right through 6/8s and maybe larger. I don't have a 4/8s but I have a couiple 5/8s and 6/8s and don't find them to be unusually light. Great shavers.

My 5/8 DD Special Spike tip is a full hollow so it's pretty light too, but an awesome blade.

Just wanted to add mine was shave ready, just a couple laps on 8k then a fine barber hone due to the blade being unused and so dang old, didn't wanna take an edge that old right to my face. "Package adopted 1925" has me thinkin' this thing's quite the elder.
Worth noting is the packaging's been stamped with "HAIR TESTED" and it's been hand-honed.
Really a kickass blade that beats my new Theirs-Issard.

I have 2 DD Dwarf's comming in, one is a spike and one is round. Will be interesting to see the difference.

I've been attracted to the Wade and Butcher's as well. Kind of the Axe of razors it seems
