Thanked: 4My second shaving cream
Hello all.
I have been using Taylor of Old Bond Street "Luxury" shaving cream since I started shaving with a straight razor. I'm starting to run out so I decided to try another make for my next shaving cream.
Today was my first shave with The Bluebeards Revenge shaving cream and I must say I was surprised at how much of a difference a shaving cream makes.
The scent is a bit stronger and not as old fashioned as the TOBS but I quite like it. It lathers very nicely and it got BBS without any problems, with the TOBS it usually takes me quite a few passes in different directions on my chin, but with the Bluebeard I got it significantly easier.
I still have enough of the old one left for a few more shaves so I will be experimenting a bit with it, but for now it seems I won't be buying any more TOBS shaving creams.

Creams and soaps can be tricky things! Not only do you have to find ones that works with your skin and beard, other factors like brush, water hardness, water temp, lathering method, can all change how well one works or doesn't work for you. So it looks like Bluebeard's Revenge is a keeper for you.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I recently tried the Spice Trade flavor from Wickham's Soap Company in England. If your a fan of Old Spice Aftershave and Cologne, the scent on this soap knocks it out of the ball park. It lathers easily and rewards the shaver with a nice shaving experience.

Thanked: 4That sounds nice, I will definitely keep an eye out for that one.
So far I haven't tried a shaving cream that doesn't disappear from my face in a short while, which leads me to lathering and shaving my face in sections instead of lathering up the entire face in one go. Even with quite a watery lather this happens.
I am thinking it might be a general problem with hard water, or maybe I just need to find the right shaving cream for my water?

Thanked: 1936Ask 20 different guys what's the best shave cream or soap and you will get 20 different answers. I like a lot of shave cream/soaps, but I have a constant in my rotation that is what I measure all others to. Proraso green or red tubs. It's cheap and works in any water I have encountered in the U.S. If a cream/soap is better, it's a keeper. If it's sub-par, i don't make the same mistake again.

As stated, YMMV. I found the Bluebeards dried very quickly, so the left side of my face lather was drying and flaking before I'd even finished shaving the right. Just didn't work for me. My 'go to' cream is Body Shop Maca Root, but I also rotate with a couple of different scent Truefitt & Hill, and St James of London.

Thanked: 3226Most of the problems associated with soaps and creams are generally caused by user errors. That said it is really a YMMV thing. The creams that I like are Maca Root from The Body Shop, Proraso Blue, only comes in the tube, Speick and Musgo Real to name a few.

I also started with TOBS. Just recently I started experimenting with alternatives. I started with Lemon & Lime, and really really liked the Grapefruit scent.
