Thanks for the tip Jaegerhund. Should the stones be wet or dry when I lap them?

Wet. I lap my stones under the running kitchen sink to wash away the swarf as it builds up.

Thanked: 1587No worries Justin. I've got to say, though, that I'm beginning to realise I do a lot, so sorry about that.

Thanked: 0I just purchased a 4k Norton waterstone, a 4k / 8k Norton Waterstone, a 12k Norton Waterstone and a Norton Lapstone to keep them flat. I'm waiting for a Belgian Yellow Coticule to arrive as a backup - alternate finishing stone. The Norton stones will need to have the edges rounded, however after reading these posts, I guess I'll take a steel straight edge to ckeck the flatness of the other stones. I would like to think that they are ready right out of the box.

Thanked: 9Howard and Tony send their hones flat. Norton - it's hit or miss.
Norton also seems to need frequent lapping, especially if you work some dogs, unlike the Belgian and natural hones.
Cheers
