    I'm a first time straight razor beginner, I saw my grandfather from Germany use his as a boy. I want to carry on the traditional way of shaving. I have tried but the razor seems to be dull and I keep nicking myself. Any suggestions that might help?

    Get it honed by one of the experienced members near you (where are you?) and then practice, practice, practice.
