    Default DE question

Almost got away clean this morning with total straight shave. I had even toweled off my face and poured coffee. My chin and surrounding was nice, the upper lip acceptable but then I made the mistake of stepping in front of the mirror and my hand landed on the DE by accident…
I’ve been attempting to straight shave for maybe a little over a month. The good news it has extended the life of my DE blades tremendously. I’ve gone from about a week per blade to . . . well – I had just changed blades when I got the straight razor. It’s still going strong. Heck it’s used for nothing but clean up with the exception of the occasional rush job. I live in a predominately female house and I’m used to shaving with semi dull blades and have gotten pushing them down to an art. Most get 3-5 shaves from a double edge, I can push it to a week and a half or more if I need to. (and in the past I have had the need to). Which brings me back to the subject line – a DE question. It seems a shame to use these things and then have them filling the landfills. . . I lost a fingertip to a beer can pop top at a beach years ago. I couldn’t imagine the damage these things could do – even dull and rusty.
There has to be a way of recycling them. Maybe I’m coming in from the dark asking a question that everyone already has the answer to.
What are you guys doing with your expended DE Blades?

I don't use DE's too often these days, but I do use the Feather disposables in the Kami, folder and Mongoose..

Spent blades go in a 'blade bank' for now..

It is literally a bank.. a coin bank. The ambulance graphic on one side and a medic Red Cross with blood droplets on the other side, seemed perfect for the purpose and offers a warning to others. It sits on the very top shelf of my shave cabinet. Wet shaving for longer than I can remember and there is about an inch of blades in the bottom of the bank.

I have no idea what I will do with the bank when it is full, if that actually ever happens in my lifetime.

I guess you're more environment conscious than I am. But in terms of safety, there should be a slit in the back of the DE blade box that you can dispose of old blades in.

I'm too much of a tightwad to by the blades in the boxes. It works out to $1.2sime thing a blade. I get the hundred pack that comes in the wax paper wrapping. Didn't realize it when I purchased then but it's the pennies on the dollar reason for going to DE.

I know of no way to recycle the blades.

Of course I do remember that video of the guy who ate razor blades and I guess you could use them for some art project. Maybe it will show up in some museum in NYC as an avant garde piece.

I have gotten bulk blades but they have come in cardboard boxes of 5s. For those the easiest way is to wrap the old blade in the saved new blade's wrap and return the used blade to the cardboard box. when the cardboard box is full tape it close and chuck in the trash. I suppose you could do the same if all 100 came in one cardboard box.

Fill an old prescription bottle with used blades and then dispose of in whatever fashion you prefer. Toss them in the trash or if you are so inclined, take to any facility that accepts used sharps items (i.e. hypodermic needles, etc) like a pharmacy or EMS/Fire department; they should also take them off your hands.

Once it is full I'll just seal it and throw with the "special unburnable rubbish"
