Introduction / New guy from Germany
Hi Guys,
let me introduce myself at first.
My name is Nicholas, I am 30 years old and was born and live in Gemany.
I am into (seriously) collecting straight razors for about two years now, prefering old carbon-steel models of all sorts of manufacturers.
A little restauration of old blades is also one of my hobbies, which I sadly am not as good in as I would like to be. Still improving, though.
A long time ago I have learned a little english in school and so I would be pleased if you guys could tolerate some of my verbal-accidents for some time until I am in practice again.
Until now I have only visited and read this forum once in a while and have only been posting in the german razor-forum.
Today I have decided to give it a shot here, testing if I could get along.
For now I am not going to get this running at all and this is the third try to post a new thread!?!
For hints/reminders on how to improve my english-language-skills I will alwas be pleased.
Best regards to all
Nicholas

Your mastery of the English language looks good enough for me to know what you're talking about (and I'm half-crazy!). Don't feel bad about not knowing how to post a new thread, I had problems myself. Welcome to the forums, Nicholas. Let us know if we can help you with anything, we'll be more than happy to give you a hand.
As a side note, I commend you on learning English since it is, in my view, the hardest to learn.

Thanked: 0Hello Nicholas, welcome to SRP. Here is a link to a CD on razor restoration. From what I have heard it is very helpful. http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...001/355857.htm I'm sure your English will improve with time.

Nicholas,
Welcome to SRP -- don't worry about your Englsih -- you'll be fine. Sometimes, I wish my German was better, so I could participate in the respective German forums on razors and knives.

Uhh, thank you for the fast replies and welcome-greetings!
A little creepy since I thought due to the different time-zones I hit this forum at a time where most people in the US are sleeping?
Also thanks for the hint to the restauration-dvd!
It has been well discussed in the german forum and the few guys who own it recommend it highly to all who are capable of understand a little more english than 12th-grade-level-english-class.
As far as I remember is that most of the tools and parts used by the maker are not or only in different versions available here.

Welcome, Nicholas!
As far as the time difference, right now it is roughly 3:53 pm in the eastern US. Some of us are night owls; admittedly I am more likely to be posting at 3 in the morning local time than 3 in the afternoon. At any rate, this is a forum with significant international membership; you will see many posts from the UK, continental Europe, a few from Israel, as well as a bunch from Australia. You are quite modest with your assessment of your skills with English, one might far more readily find fault with the posts produced by some of us who speak it natively than with either of yours.
Welcome aboard,
MichaelLast edited by ohlookaneagle; 04-29-2007 at 07:54 PM. Reason: time correction

I probably live only a couple of hours driving from where you live.
