    Default Package just arrived today!

For the last few months I've been shaving with a shavette; gradually getting better and better, and I probably have ~50 shaves under my belt now.

Well, I just found a nice little package in the mailbox -- a 6/8" full hollow ground Dovo! Looking forward to trying it out, but kinda nervous. I've never stropped before, and I'm pretty sure it won't be as forgiving as the shavette, so hopefully I don't carve myself up too badly.

I'll post later with the results (unless I'm at the hospital having an ear sewn back on...). Wish me luck!

If it was shipped to you shave ready - you don't need to strop it and you shouldn't strop it.

Take your time and enjoy your shave - leave your ears on!

Make sure not to strop it right out of the box! Shave with it first, as a newly honed razor, so that you know what it should feel like at it's sharpest. This way when you start practicing your stropping, you'll know how you're doing. Congrats on the new razor as well! That's a good one!

Oh! I thought that stropping was a necessity! Thanks for the heads-up guys! I'm glad I posted here -- I could have spoiled the razor before I even got it on my face!

I guess I should strop ever time *after* this first shave?

Congratulations on your new straight. When it is time to strop go slow, very slow. Learning correctly is much better than trying to rush stropping. We have lots of information here to
help you get stropping correctly. Good luck.

Oh man, I just finished my first shave with that sucker, and now I see why people tried to persuade me to get one. Holy smoke, but that was good!
After using the shavette for so long, the 6/8" Dovo felt like a meat cleaver when I first held it to my cheek! A really nice weight, cut through the stubble really easily, and the full hollow-ground edge made a great rasping sound
The length of the blade (compared to the disposables for the shavette) made a huge difference, allowing me to use fewer passes, and causing much less irritation (basically none).

I'm really impressed with how easy it was to be honest! I think the practice with the shavette helped, but the Dovo is so much more forgiving of mistakes. Maybe because the width of the blade let me use a much shallower angle than the thinner, chunkier, shavette?

After I was done, the alum block hardly stung at all. A little tingle, but not the stinging I get with the shavette. Very impressed.

I guess the next thing is to make sure I don't damage the edge when stropping, but that's tomorrow's problem

    Cheers guys!

I had a shavette before using a straight, and I nicked myself every time with the shavette, no matter how careful I was. I find straights much easier to use, regardless of which size, style or make I use.

    Good luck with your stropping!
